Good forecasts of future demand are crucial for gas suppliers who need to optimise their procurement, production and gas grid operation strategies. Adjusting procurement to meet the needs of fluctuating demand, meeting peak whilst not exceeding overall system parameters, is an essential requirement which means that disposition operators need accurate gas consumption forecasts for any given time period.
The PSI forecast function is designed to predict gas consumption for pre-defined “consumption areas”, which are scalable from a single user (e.g. large factory) to collations of consumer groups. Online and offline modes are available wherein the online forecast will use then-current data feeds to predict consumption whilst the offline mode permits historical data to be compared, trended or otherwise analysed. Obviously this can also be used to adjust the online forecast.
