Batch tracking is primarily concerned with predicting the locations of differing products in transit in a single line from injection to delivery. Knowing where each product is in the line, reduces the chance of mixing and downgrading the products or the contamination of products in tanks.
Accurate operation of the dynamic online model, and thus balance, in non-steady-state operation require precise knowledge of the content of the line both in terms of the location and the physical characteristics of the product.
